Lochside traditional stone-built croft cottage near Torrin
Dunmhor Cottage sits 30 paces from the high tide line beside Loch Slapin, opposite Bla Bhein, widely considered the most beautiful of the Cuillin peaks. It is reached by a level lochside track which runs from the old school at Torrin. Our 4-wheel drive is available for use on the track only.
Dunmhor is best suited to lovers of nature, walkers and climbers, artists and photographers, and people seeking tranquillity in an inspiring setting. Wildlife enthusiasts may spot the Otters which frequent the loch, or the Stoat which hunts the shore. Highland cattle and sheep graze the area.
The cottage is well equipped for use all year round, having Norwegian multi-fuel stoves, double glazing throughout, and a properly insulated upper floor. On the ground floor there is one big room (8m x 3.7 m) with a sitting area at one end and a dining area at the other.
To one side is the fully equipped kitchen (electric cooker, fridge, microwave etc.) with picture windows overlooking the sea loch towards Bla Bhein and the Black Cuillins and up the loch to the Red Cuillins. There is an entry porch for outdoor clothing (which also contains the tumble dryer).
Upstairs is reached by a steep open tread stair leading to a small landing and two bedrooms. One has a double bed and the other has two singles. Both bedrooms have electric blankets and radiators for winter use. The bathroom has a lavatory, hand basin, and an electric power shower over the bath.
In the garden is a coal store (we provide smokeless fuel free of charge) and a large shed with a homemade Table Tennis table plus four bats and a set of balls. There is a picnic bench in the garden, plus a rudimentary barbecue (bring your own if you prefer) and we have made an Otter Hide down by the loch, so if you spot an Otter from the kitchen, you can quickly get to it while the Otter is under water.
The cottage has a wide variety of books, CDs and records, plus some games, Digital TV, VCR and DVD player. Feel free to bring your favourite films with you!
Bed linen and towels are now provided.
Dogs may be allowed by arrangement only.
Low season £360, Mid season £495, High season £600 per week.
Electricity use is free, and there are no extra charges to the stated weekly rent. We ask for a 30% deposit at the time of booking, with the balance due one month in advance of entry.
A cleaner is also included in the rent, who arrives at 10 am on the change over day, which is a Saturday. Entry is at 3 pm that day.

The nearest bar and restaurant is 7 miles away in Broadford, which also has a supermarket, bank and Post Office, 24 hour opening garage and most other amenities (doctor, vet etc).
